DESCRIPTION:
2x12" LP Downbeat Electronica & Minimal Techno Grooves-The Germany-inspired proto-techno of Dopplereffekt, aka Gerald Donald of Drexciya fame, was then only available on some limited 12” on Gigolo Records, but Rotterdam’s own Clone, with their new Classic Cuts series, is trying to get those seminal tracks out of their relative anonymity and back in the limelight with the ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ album. Now, don’t get me wrong because it is a fun ride, and by listening to cold cuts such as ‘Cellular Phone’ or ‘Sterilization’ (just to name two: they all sound the same anyway, and I don’t mean that in a derogatory way), you can hear the huge impact that the Dopplereffekt aesthetic has had on retro-futurist electro producers such as I-F, Anthony Rother, Bangkok Impact, or Alden Tyrell, but at the same time, you can’t help but feeling this album is more a history lesson and a self-legitimizing release for Clone than something that viscerally had to be taken out of the underground.

Last FM Information on Dopplereffekt

Please note the information is done on a artist keyword match and data is provided by LastFM.
Dopplereffekt are one of the strangest and most mysterious units of the contemporary electronic music scene. There is only one known interview and very few live appearances. The composers hide behind strange German pseudonyms whereas the track titles and lyrics are in English and make up a strange mixture of scientific, sexually explicit and political allusions. Dopplereffekt’s music is also highly eclectic and unusual. Even if at first sight the forefathers Kraftwerk seem to be more than present, Dopplereffekt have developed their very own and highly influential sound aesthetic, without which the current electro culture seems to be unthinkable. Their best known album is Gesamtkunstwerk which appeared in 1999 on International Deejay Gigolo Records. This album featured a collection of tracks which were previously only available on the vinyl only releases: Fascist State & Infophysix. In 2003, Dopplereffekt released Linear Accelerator on the label International Deejay Gigolo Records which was a big departure from their earlier sound. The album featured very little beat oriented tracks and had a focus that largely dealt with Particle Physics. In 2007, Dopplereffekt released Calabi Yau Space on Rephlex. Read more on Last.fm.
