DEBBIE GIBSON - ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

One of the most notable of teen pop stars, Debbie Gibson, (born Deborah Ann Gibson, Aug. 31, 1970, Brooklyn, N.Y., United States), also known as Deborah Gibson, scored nine U.S. top 40 hits between 1987 and 1990, including two number ones. Her 1987 debut album Out of the Blue spawned five charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100: “Only in My Dreams” (#4), “Shake Your Love” (#4), “Out of the Blue” (#3), “Foolish Beat” (#1) and “Staying Together” (#22). Gibson wrote and largely produced her own material; at 17, she became the youngest person at the time to write, produce and perform a number-one single with “Foolish Beat.” Second album Electric Youth, released in 1989, spawned another four charting singles: “Lost in Your Eyes” (#1), “Electric Youth” (#11), “No More Rhyme” (#17) and “We Could Be Together” (#71). By her third album in 1990, Anything Is Possible, Gibson’s chart fortunes were diminishing; only the lead single, the album’s title track, made any headway, peaking at #26. It would be her final U.S. top 40 entry. She shed the wholesome teen image for 1993’s Body, Mind, Soul, and later appeared in a Playboy magazine pictorial. Despite her diminished profile, another seven albums followed between 1995 and 2022. In 2006, she reached # 24 on the U.S. adult contemporary chart with "Say Goodbye,” a duet with Jordan Knight. Gibson has also had starring roles on Broadway and touring musicals, including playing Eponine in Les Misérables and Sandy in Grease, as well as television and independent film work.
