Operating on the brink of meditative house and (Detroit) techno, Nicolas Olier's particularly hypnotic offering will certainly stand out in any set. The title track "Caligula" is a slowly developing, climactic techno burner with icey, Imperial strings hovering over it. A2 "Electroflash" is a more warm, lush, deep-into-Sunday-afternoon bubbler with a distinct French feel, topping breezy chords with a sharp hook to give it edge. With fellow Parisian Bambounou joining Coni on the flip side, "Medusa" goes deeper into percussive territory with a pulsating bongo riddim embraced by haunting organ pads perfect for those all-lights-off moments.
