DESCRIPTION:
Bridging instrumental tact with mysticism, Afriqua debuts his anticipated Aleph EP. Finding a welcome home alongside R&S's most innovative rhythmists and experimentalists.

If you've been paying close attention to music release on techo's fluid margins, you may already be familiar with the work of Adam Longman Parker AKA Afriqua. He's released a fair amount of material over the last few years, serving up cuts that variously doff a cap to tech-house, techno and booming British bass music. This first EP for R&S Records is similarly hard to pin down. Parker begins with the tumbling music box melodies, subtle Afrobeat touches and rock solid rhythms of "Aleph", before mixing '90s modem noises and enveloping chords on hazy ambient piece "Sent". Over on side B, he serves up a dreamy and melodious take on dub techno ("Opferator" [sic]) and a Motor City influenced chunk of deep house/tech-house fusion (the rather brilliant "Thanksgiving").

The Berlin based producer has previously released a steady drip of high q

The entire musical life of Adam Longman Parker AKA Afriqua has been shaped by the same duality that today so strikingly defines it. Born in Virginia in 1992, he displayed an exceptional interest in music through his obsession with his parents collection of Michael Jackson records as a young child. Consequently, his parents saw it fit to start his musical education with piano lessons at the age of 5. At the age of 10 he purchased his first set of turntables. At this point, a long love affair with Hip-hop music and culture began. Along with countless records purchased and hours spent mastering turntablism techniques, he slowly began producing his first tracks as well. When he moved to Michigan to study piano at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy at the age of 16, leaving behind his DJ set-up, his focus shifted to production. During this time, even without having yet discovered the electronic music that was to consume him a few years later, he was refining his production technique just as much as he was his piano playing. It was not until he graduated and moved to London to continue his study at the Royal Academy of Music that he discovered the house and techno he’s dedicated to today. His interest in DJing was revived as well. Since then, his attention has been split equally between classical and electronic music with the overarching goal of creating amazing pieces regardless of the context. With such a broad musical perspective, a constant search for new sounds, and many years ahead of him, Afriqua is surely a producer to expect great things from in the future. Read more on Last.fm.
